If you ask people in the Eastern Bay of Plenty what one factor distinguishes this region, you will get a single answer - the great outdoors. We have a huge outdoor playground here and we love to get out amongst it. From the teeming fishing waters of the Bay, through to the unspoilt native bush of the Ureweras, we have something to suit everyone.

Many people move to the Eastern Bay of Plenty so that they can pursue their passion for outdoor activities. This region offers a unique combination of employment opportunities and access to natural resources that is unrivalled in New Zealand. Add to that the fact that the climate is perfect for being outdoors all year round and you have a winning combination.

We have a number of active clubs catering to various interests, from mountain biking, to kayak fishing to pig hunting. We are also the destination of choice for a number of major races and competitions, offering challenging landscapes and unspoilt surroundings for every level of competitor.

The only thing we can’t lay claim to are winter sports such as skiing, but with the two large ski fields of Mount Ruapehu a short trip away, we aren’t complaining.
