Opotiki
Opotiki District is a popular tourist destination for those looking to get away from it all. For the same reasons, if you are looking for a quieter pace of life and access to an unspoilt environment then you will enjoy living here.
Opotiki is the northern gateway to the East Cape, with its rugged coastline and some of the best land-based fishing in New Zealand. There are not many places in the world where you can catch a marlin from the rocks, but this is one of them. Waiting for you here are thermal areas with natural hot pools, many rivers and lakes well stocked with fish and bush country popular for hunting deer, wild pigs, and goats.
Opotiki is the “Wild West” of the Eastern Bay with a thriving country music scene and a popular annual rodeo. Bounded by rivers on three sides, the township of Opotiki is a quaint settlement with a strong community rich in Maori history. There are serious moves afoot to grow the commercial sector in this district with reengineering works planned for the harbour to improve access.
